Nightlife Stalis Greece: Bars & Clubs

While the nightlife in Stalis, Crete might not be as hedonistic as the scene in neighbouring Malia, Stalis isn't a resort for the clubbing crowd. Aimed squarely at families and couples, it offers old-school Greek charm, with a beautiful, golden-sand beach and some excellent attractions.

However, just because the clientele is different, it doesn't mean that there isn't Stalis nightlife. For those who want to kick their heels up, there are some brilliant bars, superb restaurants and some lively nightspots.

British bars and karaoke

Popular with British tourists, you'll find an equal smattering of British bars and Greek tavernas in Stalis. If you're looking for familiar surroundings, the Red Lion is a stalwart of the Stalis nightlife scene. Less than a five-minute walk from the beach, it's an English-style pub serving beers, wine and holiday cocktails. If your holiday to Stalis happens to coincide with ”the big match', they've got big TVs, showing all the important games, and you can dine on anything from a full english to a Sunday roast.

However, if you want your nightlife a little livelier, look out for the Slainte Irish Bar, where you can enjoy the craic, with karaoke and dancing until the wee, small hours.

Beach bars, clubs and restaurants

For those who enjoy their nightlife with a little more authenticity, the Yassas Beach Bar perfectly captures all that's great about Greece. It's a little on the laid-back side, so don't expect meals to be delivered quickly. Instead, you're in for an evening of good food, good drinks and good music, all on the soft sands of Stalis Beach. There's plenty of dining options for children and those with less-adventurous palates, including burgers and pizzas.

There are further bars in the centre of town, offering a good selection of themes and music. In addition, you'll find a couple of clubs tucked away, playing a broad range of music, from disco classics and chart-topping pop, to house music and rock.

If you'd prefer to enjoy a relaxed dinner, in ambient surroundings, you'll also find plenty of places to eat in this area. Look out for the Sergiani Greek Family Restaurant, where you can enjoy traditional Cretan cuisine in a small garden, with a water feature running through it. Watch out for the complimentary shots at the end of your meal, as they can be deceptively potent!

Beyond Stalis

If you really want to kick your heels up, Malia is just a short walk from the more reserved Stalis nightlife. Venues such as the Dolphin Beach Bar and Charlies Bar, located close to the harbour, appeal to the clubbing crowd. Here, the tunes are louder and play longer into the night. You'll usually find special offers on drinks, getting people in the party mood, before they head off into town.
